Terms of Service
Effective date: July 19, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of The Academy, the education platform operated by The Welcome PDX, a Portland, Oregon 501(c)(3) nonprofit. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these Terms.
Who can use The Academy
The Academy is offered to members of The Welcome PDX community. Accounts are created after a request is reviewed by our staff — we do not accept open public sign-ups. You’re responsible for keeping your account credentials private and for anything that happens under your account. Don’t share your login with anyone else, including other participants.
Acceptable use
This platform exists to support your growth and connect our community — please help keep it that way. When using The Academy, including in messages, the community board, and any coursework you submit, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, demean, or discriminate against any other participant, facilitator, or staff member;
- Post content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or that reveals another person’s private information without their consent;
- Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your affiliation with The Welcome PDX;
- Attempt to access another participant’s account, or any part of the platform you’re not authorized to use;
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute course materials or platform content outside of your own personal use;
- Use the platform for any commercial purpose unrelated to The Welcome PDX’s programs.
We may remove content, suspend, or close an account that violates these Terms — particularly where we believe it threatens the safety of another participant or staff member. Where possible, we’ll try to talk with you first.
Your coursework
Work you submit — worksheets, projects, and other coursework — remains yours. By submitting it, you give facilitators and staff permission to review, grade, and provide feedback on it as part of the program. We don’t use your individual coursework for any purpose beyond your own education without asking you first (see our
Photo, Story & Testimonial Release Policy for how we handle sharing anyone’s story publicly).
Certificates
Certificates of completion reflect that you finished a workshop’s requirements as defined by that program. They’re a record of your effort and learning, not a guarantee of any particular outcome, employment, or licensure.
No cost, no warranty
Our programs are offered free to Welcome PDX community members. The Academy is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it accurate, available, and useful, but we can’t guarantee it will always be error-free or uninterrupted, and we’re not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, let you know directly. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
